When I was at the Marleaux booth at the NAMM Show yesterday, Ariane Cap told me about a cool video Marleaux artists put together. Each musician got a drum track and was asked to play 8 bars each. The result is pretty incredible.
Aguilar has expanded their offering of split-coil bass pickups with the Super Split. The hum-canceling pickups are built in a soapbar shape and designed to create “rich bass tone – crisp and open treble, barking midrange and huge lows.”

…albeit not cheap. For those of you who are familiar with attenuators, you know they solve a real problem with cranking a tube amp to get the power tubes to fully saturate: The volume that even a low wattage amp produces when it’s cranked is LOUD, and an attenuator helps to...
Some people call it “serving the song.” In Ryan’s new “Lightbulb Moment,” she talks about playing inside - and sometimes - outside the box, including covering the literal box patterns on bass.
Here’s Miles Mosley at Paste Studios doing his thing on the tune, “Abraham,” back in 2017. Be sure to check out the solo! When he pulls out the bow, things get really epic.
Since I’ve fixed up the guitar, I have been having some serious fun with it, breaking in the strings and honestly, getting the guitar used to being played again. In the meantime, I was waiting for information from Godin on the provenance of the guitar. And nothing is better...

Social media is a shitshow lately. I don’t need to remind you about certain divisive presidents of certain international superpowers, or particular superstars who always seem to pop up to draw attention to themselves when someone else is getting too much positive...
After work this evening, I went directly to my local Guitar Center and bought some strings (for me, they’re Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalts). After I wrote my previous article on the guitar yesterday, I couldn’t stop thinking about the guitar. I spent the entire day today dreaming...
For those of us who grew up in the ’70s and ’80’s, analog synthesizers were de rigueur to the music of the day. One of the most popular synths was the Prophet 5. I used to use a Yamaha DX-7, but there were some totally cool analog synths back then. Back in college in the […]
Fishman has expanded their Fluence line of pickups with a new set of Soapbar multi-voice bass pickups. The active pickups, come in four and five-string versions, offer three distinct voices to cover different playing styles.

Back in late 2017 when my friend passed on her late uncle’s guitars to me after she and her mom found them in their storage shed, one of the guitars she gave to me is this gorgeous Godin Artisan ST shown to the left. I was so enchanted by the Simon & Patrick PRO acoustic […]
This week, Damian received a question about creating bass lines with minimalism and implication versus overt and fuller harmonic context. This is a deep question, so instead of just writing about it, he decided to make a video to play through some ideas and talk it out.
Back in 2017, we shared a video of Me and Maria’s tune, “Holder hjertet gemt.” Johannes Pehrson recently shared this live performance of the tune, which is even more impressive.
Altitudes and Attitude have released their debut full-length album, entitled “Get It Out.” The band is a side project for Megadeth bassist David Ellefson and Anthrax bassist Frank Bello, who began working on songs together while doing gear demos for Hartke.
There’s a big hole in my heart. It’s shaped like a flanger with trigger mode, and there just aren’t enough of them on the market. Or at least there wasn’t until now: Earthquaker Devices has just announced the Pyramids Stereo Flanging Device. It has five presets, eight...
