The Charvel Custom Shop is celebrating 40 years in business by recreating eleven of their custom shop models from the original 1979 catalog offering. The 40th Anniversary Custom Collection includes the San Dimas in Blue Diamond and an XP in Platinum Pink.
The Markbass booth was a hot spot for great bass performances at the 2019 NAMM Show. In this clip, Marcus Miller, Richard Bona and Hadrien Feraud take the stage to jam and trade solos.
Ken Smith Basses has announced that their USA line of basses will now be built by luthier Kevin Brubaker of Brubaker Guitars. Smith notes that 2019 marks the company’s 40th anniversary and a new era for the company.

Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan and Fender have teamed up once again to refresh the Duff McKagan Deluxe Precision Bass. The instrument is based on the ’80s Jazz Bass Special he used to record the album “Appetite for Destruction.”
David Pastorius sent us this video of his band Local 518 performing “The Chase” in the studio. The tune appeared on David’s first album and the re-recording will be part of his next one, Radio Gold, which drops on March 15th.
The Tedeschi Trucks band has released their fourth studio album, entitled “Signs.” The eleven-song continues the southern soul band’s momentum of amazing music, and also marks the final album to feature bassist Tim Lefebvre.
EBS expanded their bass pedal offerings this year at the Winter NAMM Show with the EBS MicroBass 3, an analog “multi-tool” for bassists. The unit is a two-channel preamp that brings together features from their HD360 and Fafner II bass amplifiers.

I love it when Stuart Clayton posts one of his “Giants of Bass” videos. He named this one “Who Dunnit?” which focuses on the style of Duck Dunn.
For the first time in over three decades, previously unissued recordings from the late saxophonist Eric Dolphy have been released. “Musical Prophet: The Expanded 1963 New York Studio Sessions” includes 85 minutes of music, featuring bassists Richard Davis and Eddie Kahn
Lake Street Dive has announced a new leg of tour dates for this summer. The band, anchored by bassist Bridget Kearney, will be splitting their time with dates headlining as well as co-headlining with The Wood Brothers, featuring Chris Wood on bass.

G&L Guitars has introduced the Fullerton Deluxe range of basses including two new models. The Fullerton Deluxe JB and Fullerton Deluxe LB-100 are both made in the company’s Fullerton, California shop.
Lawson Kennard sent us this incredible video featuring the trio of Adam Blackstone, Wayne Moore and Thaddeus Tribbett performing a tribute to Derrick Hodge. While the performance is fantastic, I really enjoyed hearing Derrick’s story and influences at the end of the clip.
Thomas Laffont has released “The House By The Sea,” which marks the debut album with his band The Thomas Laffont Group. Anchored by Laffont’s deft bass work, the eight-song album takes you on a emotional trip.
Fuzzrocious Pedals released two new pedals at the Winter NAMM Show with the Playing Mantis and the Knob Jawn. Each of the pedals is handmade in their New Jersey shop.

Cory Wong is back with a new video, and we’re once again digging the sound. In this performance of “Simon,” Wong is once again joined by Kevin MacIntire on bass. I love the unison lines on this one, and the shirt offers a cool background too.
Victor Wooten is taking his educational camp on the road with the Wooten Woods Experience tour. The outing will feature the master bassist with his band as well as some students presenting an educational performance based on his Music and Nature camps.

The band known as the Blues Beatles (with Bruno Falcão on bass) has been super popular around here. Turns out the guys behind that band also have another: Alabama Johnny. Here’s their performance of “Please Don’t Waste My Time.”
