The Melvins have announced a massive 10-week tour across the U.S. for the fall. Joining them on the trip will be Red Kross and Sweden’s ShitKid. The Melvins and Red Kross share a bassist in Steven McDonald, who will be pulling double duty on the tour.

Composer/arranger Lisa Maxwell has released an album that serves as a tribute to the late trumpeter Lew Soloff. “Shiny!” features a who’s who of musicians that all had a connection with Soloff - including bassists Will Lee, Mark Egan, and David Finck.
Shinedown bassist Eric Bass has been forced to leave the band’s current tour due to medical reasons. The news came in a Twitter video from the group.

Doug Berns sent us this video of his excellent all-bass cover of Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose.” Doug shared: “Colored it up with some chorus, reverb and a light octave. Beautiful melody, gorgeous tune!!”

Paul Gilbert’s “Behold Electric Guitar” was released earlier this month, and from what I’ve heard so far, it is fantastic – and pretty unexpected. Here’s the clip for the track “Blues For Rabbit,” with bassist Roland Guerin laying it down.
