Introducing Cubendo: A Colour Palette Editor for Cubase and Nuendo
Hello everyone,

I would like to share a tool I have developed called Cubendo – the Palette Editor for Cubase and Nuendo. I built it to improve my own workflow, and I hope it may be useful to others here on Gearspace.

Here is a bit of background:

I often customise colour palettes in Cubase and Nuendo (for tracks, groups and folders) and found the manual editing of the Defaults.xml file tedious and error-prone. To make the process easier and more visual, I created Cubendo. Please note that this is not an official Steinberg product, but a community-built utility.

What Cubendo can do:

• Gradient Editor: Create up to 128 swatches with endless colour combinations.

• Drag and Drop: Reorder individual swatches or entire rows using Row Mode.

• Eyedropper: Pick any colour from your screen and turn it into a swatch.

• HEX and Names: Switch between HEX codes and colour names, and copy codes easily.

• Balance: Use “Harmonise” to balance all colours or “Pastelise” for softer tones.

• Backup and Export: Back up your defaults.xml and export a customised version ready for use.

• Create Presets: Save your palette sets as JSON presets and reload them any time. A small library of example palettes is included.

Why you might find it useful:

If you like maintaining colour consistency and organisation in your Cubase or Nuendo projects, Cubendo can save you time. Instead of editing XML manually, you can make visual adjustments safely and quickly.

Download and try it out:

You can explore and try Cubendo here: https://www.poundsound.uk/cubendo/

The tool is free to use. There is a donation option if you find it helpful, but there is no obligation.

A few notes:

• Always back up your original defaults.xml before replacing or editing it.

• While I have tested Cubendo on several systems, results may vary depending on Cubase or Nuendo version and operating system.

• This is a community tool, so please use it at your own discretion.

• I welcome feedback, bug reports and feature ideas for future updates.

Thank you for reading. I hope this tool helps others as much as it has helped me. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback.

Best regards,

Marcus
