Cherry Audio releases Trident Mk III Synth Plugin

Thursday October 9, 2025. 11:27 AM , from KVR Audio
Cherry Audio has announced the release of the Trident Mk III synthesizer, a virtual instrument that revives the sonic capabilities of the original Korg Trident hardware synth. Cherry Audio says Trident Mk III accurately replicates the three distinct sections of the original Korg hardware: the sweeping Synth, bold Brass, and stirring Strings. Each section now features 16 voices, enhancing expressiveness with velocity sensitivity and both channel and polyphonic aftertouch. These upgrades allow for dynamic performances that were previously unattainable on vintage hardware. With comprehensive MIDI mapping capabilities and over 380 professionally designed presets, the Trident Mk III should be a versatile virtual instrument that will appeal to both vintage synth enthusiasts and contemporary music producers. Trident Mk III also features the introduction of lower panels for Keyboard, Motion, and Effects, creating a virtual studio of tools that enhances the 'orchestra-in-a-box' experience. These features include drag-and-drop key zones and quick templates for creating splits and layers. The plugin also has a DAW-friendly 16x2 polyphonic step sequencer and dual arpeggiators. Additionally, it offers 17 effects that can be arranged and reused within its four effects chains. New Features in Detail Keyboard panel The Keyboard panel includes hideable keys and provides quick access to performance tools. These enhancements allow you to incorporate real-time expressive techniques, such as bending, sliding, and vibrato. In addition to supporting velocity, Cherry Audio's Trident also offers both channel and polyphonic aftertouch, enabling expressive performances that were not possible with the original hardware. Motion panel The all-new Motion panel allows users to easily assign key splits and layers using one-click Quick Split templates and draggable zone controls. It features discrete vibrato controls for each section, aftertouch assignment, a transposable 32-step polyphonic sequencer, and two customizable advanced arpeggiators. These capabilities enable users to set up and play the Synth, Brass, and String sections simultaneously in various ways, bringing this multitimbral orchestra-in-a-box to life at their fingertips. Effects panel The Effects panel offers an array of options that go well beyond the original Trident's BBD flanger and ensemble effects, featuring a total of 17 different effects across four effects chains. These include the classic flanger, a compressor, a lo-fi effect, a phaser, a ring modulator, a 7-band EQ, and various delays and reverbs, including Cherry Audio's new Lushverb. You can arrange chains of up to five effects in each section: Synthesizer, Brass, and Strings, along with a Global effects chain that processes all three sections together. Each effect pedal can be adjusted, bypassed, reordered by dragging, copied, soloed, and duplicated. You can also save and recall chains for use in other presets. Additionally, a dedicated LFO Effect Modulator allows you to modulate entire chains. Momentum Preset Pack Alongside the launch of Trident, Cherry Audio is also introducing the Momentum Preset Pack for $9.99. Created by sound designer James Dyson, this collection of 100 additional presets highlights the multi-timbral combination of Trident's Synth, Brass, and Strings sections. It takes full advantage of features like layers and splits, the sequencer, and dual arpeggiators, resulting in a showcase of dynamic sounds and motion for the Trident Mk III. Pricing & Availability Priced at $69, Cherry Audio's Trident Mk III synthesizer is available for macOS (10.13 and later) and Windows (7 and later) in AU, VST, VST3, AAX, and standalone formats. A free 30-day demo is available. Also, until October 21st at cherryaudio.com, customers can take advantage of Cherry Audio's 'Build Your Own Bundle' promotion.
