Behringer has announced the SDS-3, a 4-channel analog drum synthesizer. The unit is described as an authentic reproduction of the original Simmons SDS-3 circuitry from the 1970s, updated with modern connectivity options. The SDS-3 is designed for hands-on, real-time control, featuring 57 knobs and switches. It aims to replicate the characteristics of the original unit, which was known for its ability to synthesize percussive sounds or be triggered by external audio sources, such as a microphone on an acoustic drum. The SDS-3 provides four identical drum channels, each with controls to shape the sound. Users can add an 'impact click,' adjust the decay and pitch, and apply pitch bend. A dedicated Special FX channel is also included for adding modulation and further sonic character. For integration into modern and modular setups, the SDS-3 is Eurorack-ready and includes multiple trigger options: velocity-sensitive analog inputs, MIDI, and USB.
