Audioscape releases the E-Series Deluxe Buss Comp
Audioscape releases the E-Series Deluxe Buss Compressor based on tha iconic 4000E's quad-buss VCA-based compressor.

AudioScape is proud to introduce the E-Series Deluxe Buss Compressor, a remarkably faithful recreation of the legendary British Console’s E-Series center-section quad bus Compressor.

Truly the “face that launched a thousand ships”, it’s often said that the majority of charting hits in the 1980s were mixed on a 4000E. One of the reasons engineers loved that console so much was the quad-buss VCA-based compressor installed in the master section. That quad compressor had a uniquely aggressive characteristic on the low-end that made the kick and snare explode out of the monitors, and made the mixes slam! That giant sound mostly owes to the 202(C) Gold Can VCAs used, and the dual-transistors around them. In later revisions, the 202(C) was replaced, changing the ballistics, and the sound, of the quad-buss compressor dramatically.

Now, AudioScape has recreated that much-loved compressor in the E-Series Deluxe Buss Comp. We deconstructed an original 202(C) VCA and found that the original build actually deviated from the printed specification. Notably, our in-house 202C VCAs are built to the correct specification; it’s the first time since the 1980s that an E-Series buss compressor has been available with correctly built VCAs. To support those VCAs, we’re using NOS dual transistors that are identical to the originals.

AudioScape’s E-Series Deluxe Buss Comp is the most accurate recreation of this storied compressor available.

A few updates have been added to this edition, making it even more indispensable as a tool for creating giant mixes. These updates include a switchable LINK function that unlinks the Side-Chain detectors so that the left and right channels of the E-Series Buss Comp are rectified independently, instead of using a combined L/R signal detector in the S/C to rectify both sides equally.

Also added is a BLEND control, for “wet” to “dry” mixing of compressed/ uncompressed audio, and a stereo WIDTH control that can be defeated and removed from the signal chain by simply pulling out on the knob. We’ve also added more control over the side-chain (S-C) filter by giving the user a wide range of high-pass corner frequencies to choose from, 60-320 Hz, or OFF completely. There’s now a switchable IRON feature that will engage Cinemag output transformers, for even more tonal options. And, finally, the new SLAM function, that will push your mixes all the way to the edge!
