Bitwig Launches Bitwig Studio 6.0 Beta
Wednesday August 27, 2025. 12:28 PM , from KVR Audio
Bitwig has announced the release of the Bitwig Studio 6 beta, a major software update that refines and expands on the DAW's core functions. The new version focuses on improving workflow and introducing new ways of working with automation, notes, and clips. The update includes a significant upgrade to automation editing, with new gestures and behaviors like 'spread' and 'hold.' It also brings the concept of automation clips to the software, which allows users to manipulate automation in a familiar, clip-based format. Other new features include: Clip Aliases: A new way to handle repetition and structure. Project-Wide Key Signature: A feature to guide note work across the entire project. Updated Visual Interface: Improvements to the UI, including a new tool palette and better zoom options. Enhanced Editors: Upgrades to expression editing and layered editing for both audio and notes. Further details on the new features are as follows: Extensive Upgrade to Automation Editing Automation editing has been overhauled in Bitwig Studio 6. You can now access automation curves in two new ways: Pressing [A] switches to Automation Mode, overlaying each track with the last-touched parameter. All automation for any track is now available in the Detail Editor Panel. Gestures have been improved to make editing faster and more unified: Clicking near a line allows for quick vertical dragging. Automation points can be dragged past other points to overwrite them. Time selections can be used to adjust a section of automation without affecting points on either side. New automation behaviors also offer creative possibilities: Spread applies a random value within a range on each pass. Hold makes a point stay at a flat value until the next point is reached. Curvature for segments can now be controlled in the Inspector. The Pencil tool has an upgraded algorithm for drawing freehand, and a new Spray Can tool paints a series of held points at the current grid interval. Introducing Automation Clips Bitwig Studio 6 introduces automation clips, bringing a familiar clip-based workflow to automation. These clips can be looped, stretched, and slid in time, just like audio and note clips. They can also be saved to the library for later use. New: Clip Aliases Clip aliases are a new way to structure and sequence music. Instead of duplicating a clip, you can drag an alias, which shares a pattern with the original. When you edit one alias, all of them are updated. This works with audio, note, and automation clips in both the Clip Launcher and Arranger. You can also use the Merge Duplicate Patterns function to link identical clips or use Make Unique to make an alias independent. Project-Wide Key Signature Projects in Bitwig Studio 6 now have a key signature. The scale is visible in the Piano Roll, and features like Snap to Key [K] and Quantize to Key help ensure your notes are in key. Six note-shifting devices, including the new Key Filter+, have a Use Global Key option that follows any key changes in the project. Updated Visual Interface The visual interface has been improved for better navigation and customization: Editing tools are now a palette on the right side of the interface. Grid appearance can be adjusted from each editor. Track headers are more dynamic and can be resized. The new Arranger Auto Zoom option enlarges a selected track or lane. The Clip Launcher now visualizes clip position and loop count. Enhanced Editors Expression editing has been improved, allowing you to edit expressions like gain and pressure directly on the notes. This also includes the new automation gestures. Layered editing has also been enhanced, allowing you to select and edit multiple clips, even showing audio and note lanes side by side. More Features Bitwig Studio 6 includes many other improvements: A new Audition tool for previewing any track or clip. A Step Input tool for quick note entry. A new Adapt to Key option in the Piano Roll, which uses colored lanes to show in-key notes. Four new Grid modules for working with pitch and key. A new safety feature that automatically backs up projects when they are opened in a new version of the software. Pricing and Availability Beta testing for Bitwig Studio 6 has begun. The beta is free for all Bitwig Studio, Producer, and Essentials users with an active Upgrade Plan as of August 27, 2025. Users can find the beta installers in their user profile. The full release is expected in the fall. YouTube/xJF7i3x46Ec Read More
