23DSP Releases Talk2M3 – Formant-Driven Bass Synth

23DSP has announced Talk2M3, a software synthesizer focused on generating bass tones with vowel-like articulation. The instrument combines a formant filter section, a sub oscillator, and modulation tools designed for rhythmic and textural variation. Features Formant 'Talk' Section At the core of Talk2M3 is its formant filtering engine. This allows the user to choose from multiple vowel profiles and move between them in real time. Two main controls, Depth and Frequency, determine the intensity of the formant effect and the position within the vowel spectrum. This can be modulated manually or via automation to produce evolving 'talking' tones. Sub Oscillator A sine-based sub oscillator runs alongside the main voice to reinforce low-end content. Glide and Level parameters allow both continuous pitch slides and discrete note articulation, useful for styles that rely on either smooth transitions or clearly defined bass hits. Envelope Control The envelope stage uses an AHDSR model, providing control over Attack, Hold, Decay, Sustain, and Release. This structure enables shaping of fast transient hits as well as longer, evolving notes without additional modulation sources. Modulation and Effects Talk2M3 includes a tempo-synced gain modulation module with selectable waveforms for rhythmic shaping of amplitude.
