![]() The Vienna Symphonic Library is pleased to announce the release of Synchron Solo Viola, a new solo string virtual instrument meticulously sampled in the large Stage A of the company’s own Vienna Synchron Stage. Following Synchron Solo Violin and Synchron Solo Cello, this is the third release in the company’s Synchron Solo Strings series. The instrument was performed by acclaimed violist Anna Firsanova. The product is currently available at an introductory price of $156 (reg. $209) for the Standard Library and $219 (reg. $293) for the Full Library. The difference between the Standard Library and the Full Library is the number of available microphone positions. Customers who purchase or have registered all three currently available Collections (Synchron Solo Violin, Solo Viola, Solo Cello) will get the fourth instalment in the series, Synchron Solo Violin 2, for free upon its release in early July. What’s more, the Austrian company kicks off the „Summer of Strings” with major discounts on all of their string collections – from the Synchron Series and Studio Series to the Big Bang Orchestra String Packs. https://www.vsl.co.at/summer-of-strings Warm, Mellow, Expressive: Voilà, Viola! This new release captures the natural flow of captivating viola performances, recorded on Stage A of Vienna’s renowned Synchron Stage. With a wide range of expressive articulations, multiple stage positions (solo, 1st chair, center), and 11 microphone setups, it offers flexibility, heightened realism and musical expressivity. Production-ready mix presets ensure a polished sound right out of the box. The Middle Child of the String Family The viola often shines as the unsung hero of the string family, with a warm, dusky tone that sits perfectly between the brilliance of the violin and the depth of the cello. As a solo instrument, it offers a distinctive, introspective voice that’s both rich in color and deeply expressive. Capturing the nuanced soul of this instrument is a unique challenge – one the Vienna team met with precision and care. Synchron Solo Viola brings out the full expressive potential of this instrument in a virtual performance partner that’s inspiringly realistic and responsive. Meet the Virtuoso: Anna Firsanova The Synchron Solo Viola features stellar performances by Anna Firsanova, solo violist of the Vienna Synchron Orchestra. Originally from Moscow and trained in both Russia and Vienna, she is a prizewinner at several international competitions and has been a member of the Wiener Jeunesse Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. She is currently co-principal violist of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz. At Vienna Synchron Stage, her playing can be heard on the recordings of The Acolyte and the anime Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul. Deeply Articulated Anna Firsanova brought exceptional dedication and precision to the extensive sampling sessions in the large hall of Synchron Stage Vienna – a commitment clearly reflected in the impressive range of articulations captured. Short notes include a variety of spiccatos, staccatos, détachés, ricochet, and saltando. Long notes come with various vibrato styles, different attacks and releases as well as various slides. Legato variants include normal, agile, slurred, portamento, and lyrical styles. Playing techniques such as sforzato, several crescendos and diminuendos, tremolos, trills, harmonics, pizzicatos and col legno add a host of styles, tonal colors and dynamic nuances to the expressive possibilities of this virtual instrument.
