Orchestral Tools Announces MIRRORS in Collaboration with SLATE + ASH

Orchestral Tools has announced the release of MIRRORS, a new virtual instrument created in collaboration with instrument creators SLATE + ASH. MIRRORS explores the concept of sonic reflections and refractions by combining analog synthesis and acoustic orchestral performance. The library sends synthesized source material through orchestral ensembles, aiming to highlight the symmetries between electroacoustic sounds. The instrument is designed to blend experimental synthesis and expansive orchestration, offering a set of tools for creating atmospheres and textures. The synthesized source material was created by SLATE + ASH using modular devices and analog synths to evoke an acoustic feel with evolving tones and textures. This material was then re-orchestrated by Hugh Brunt of the London Contemporary Orchestra for live performance, capturing details such as textures, swells, and pitch stretching idiosyncrasies. The orchestral ensembles, including traditional instruments as well as verrophone, bowed crotales, and rustling plastic bags, were recorded at Teldex Studios in Berlin under the guidance of composer-producer Yair Elazar Glotman. The source material was also amplified and recorded at Teldex from the same microphone perspectives for cohesion. MIRRORS features a bespoke engine and interface designed to merge synthetic textures with their orchestral reflections. Key details: 45 pairs of synth and orchestral sounds.
