Soundtoys Releases SpaceBlender - Free until May 22nd, 2025
Thursday May 1, 2025. 12:52 PM , from KVR Audio
Soundtoys has announced the release of SpaceBlender, an experimental reverb plugin designed to create unusual and imaginative spatial effects. Inspired by the techniques of ambient music pioneers, including layered tape loops and delays, SpaceBlender focuses on generating evolving and organic spatial textures. It allows users to sculpt non-linear spaces and rich textures, transforming sounds into dramatic swells. SpaceBlender features a unique algorithmic architecture that provides control over the shape, density, and spectral evolution of the effect. Key controls include the Time knob for setting reverb length from 100ms up to a minute (with sync to host tempo), a Color control to adjust the spectral evolution of the reverb over time (allowing for effects that get brighter or darker), and a Texture control to morph between smooth and sparse characteristics. The Mod control introduces random movement within the processing layers for added richness and motion, while the Freeze function creates evolving ambient loops. The plugin includes a Visualizer to display the effect's shape and interaction with the sound, and the ability to manipulate the reverb envelope by dragging an X/Y cursor for real-time morphing. Our founder Ken Bogdanowicz and sound designer Andrew Schlesinger (respectively) created the DSP algorithms and patch for the original Black Hole effect in the Eventide DSP4000. They have decades of experience designing and tuning effects and reverb algorithms. While capable of cinematic sound design and experimental effects, SpaceBlender is also presented as a tool for adding depth and dimension to various sources in standard music production. The algorithmic design draws inspiration from classic digital reverbs as well as hardware like the Ursa Major Space Station, Lexicon 224, and the Swarmatron synthesizer. Highlights: Interactive control for morphing between gate, reverse, decay, and bloom reverb shapes. Visualizer to display and anticipate effect evolution. Spectral evolution control for reverbs that change in brightness over time. Embedded modulation for adding motion to ambient effects. Texture control to shift between dense and sparse sounds. Extreme range from short bursts to long, sustained effects. Pricing and Availability: Soundtoys SpaceBlender is available now and is being offered for free until May 22, 2025. After this introductory period, the regular price will be $99. The plugin is compatible with macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows, supporting VST, VST3, AU, and AAX formats. An iLok account is required for registration. {PRODUCT-HEADER-31275-spaceblender}. https://youtu.be/V8Z24a4cq50 Read More
