Interphase Audio releases Silicon and Iron 500 Series Preamps
Tuesday December 10, 2024. 03:17 PM , from Gearslutz
Ardennes, Belgium – December 2024 Adding to the company’s much-loved range of 500 EQ modules, Interphase Audio introduces two new Microphone PreAmps in the 500-series format. Crafted in the Belgium audio brand’s workshops, these new additions are high-resolution tools for in-studio recording or high-quality recording on the move. Please meet Silicon and Iron. Silicon is the 500 / 51x module version of the fabulous Microphone Amplifier of the Ark console. This preamp will amplify the signal coming from your microphone incredibly well - transparent, pristine, clear - without colouration, distortion or added noise. Silicon brings out the best from any microphone. For pure sonic clarity, Silicon’s transformerless, universal, solid-state amp can accept signals from any type of microphone whatsoever. Even older Ribbon microphones, synths or guitars can be directly connected without a problem. With an extraordinarily low Equivalent Input Noise of -138dBu, Silicon will not add any noise over and above that coming from the microphone itself. Really! Silicon also features Interphase Audio’s Reference Bargraph Meter and the High-Pass-Filter (Lo-Cut-Filter) from the EQ section of the Ark console. Silicon is a Discrete, Class-A design, hand-built by Interphase Audio in Belgium and carries a 5-year warranty. Specifications (real measurements) Input Impedance: 20k Maximum Input Level (unity gain): +20dBu (500 Module) Maximum Input Level (unity gain): +24dBu (51X Module) Frequency Response (-1dB): 15Hz to 40kHz Frequency Response (-3dB): 7Hz to 80kHz Equivalent Input Noise (input shorted, 60dB gain): -138dBu Output noise at minimum gain (low Range): -100dBu Output noise at minimum gain (high Range): -83dBu Total Harmonic Distortion at +4dBu output: 0.0004% Inter Modulation Distortion at +4dBu output: 0.0004% Common Mode Rejection: -80dB Maximum Output Level: +26dBu (500 Module) Maximum Output Level: +32dBu (51X Module) Current requirement: 65mA (maximum) per rail Size and weight: Standard 500 Series, 0.6 kilos Iron is the 500 / 51x module version of the fabulous Microphone Amplifier of the Ark console, but with our custom input transformer This transformer preamp will amplify the signal coming from your microphone incredibly well - transparent, pristine, clear – but transformer generated harmonics and distortion will be added when “running hot”. Iron brings out the best from your mics, but can give that little extra “push” if needed. For pure sonic clarity, Iron’s amp can accept signals from any type of microphone whatsoever.
