Celebrating the Taylors That Started It All Return of the X-brace 800: Honoring the Early Days 714ce: Timeless Style and Responsive Feel 514ce: Magical Mahogany Meets Western Red Cedar Crafted in Small Batches, Like the Originals Celebrating the Taylors That Started It All Early Taylor guitars became well known for their thin necks, supreme playability, and tonal brilliance. They were also known for their distinctive bolt-on neck joints. A radical departure from the traditional, glued-in dovetail neck joint, bolted necks made Taylor instruments much easier to repair and far less time-consuming to assemble. These early Taylor guitars were available in the most common body shapes of the day, including dreadnought and jumbo. The Legacy Collection also includes two models built in the classic Grand Auditorium shape introduced in 1994. Return of the X-brace The Legacy Collection differs from all other American-made Taylors by virtue of its bracing pattern. Instead of employing the groundbreaking V-Class bracing design, Taylor opted for the traditional X-bracing they used for decades. X-bracing gives the Legacy Collection a classic voice with plenty of projection. Guitarists wishing for a classic-sounding instrument with Taylor’s signature playability will quickly fall in love with the Legacy Collection. 800: Honoring the Early Days There are three 800 Series Legacy guitars on offer. The Legacy 810e is a classic dreadnought built in the spirit of the earliest Taylor guitars. Next comes the 815e, Taylor’s tribute to early jumbo-size acoustics. It also features an eye-grabbing moustache-style bridge. The other 800 Series entrant is the 855e, a stunning 12-string channeling the 1980s Taylors that became a mainstay among 12-string devotees. In the Legacy Collection, the Legacy 714ce takes the Grand Auditorium body shape and pairs it with a cedar top and Indian rosewood back and sides. Visually, the Legacy 714ce mimics the understated look of the original 714 models for a clean, timeless appearance. You get mahogany back and sides plus a sweet-sounding western red cedar top. This guitar comes with the exact same X-bracing pattern used by Taylor throughout the 1990s and 2000s. For modern reliability, it comes with Taylor’s patented neck design. The company’s luthiers lavish all their talent to make sure these instruments are the best they can possibly be before leaving the factory and meeting their owners. Building the guitars in small batches also means that supplies are extremely limited. Interested in owning a Taylor Legacy Collection guitar?
