Computers Have Surpassed (finally) My Needs
Friday November 8, 2024. 11:01 PM , from Gearslutz
Well this is interesting…
Been on music computers since the late 80’s with Logic and the Atari 1040st. I have always been on the upgrade cycle as computers have never been fast enough for production. That finally changed with my 2019 Mac Pro Intel tower with 96gb ram and 4tb SSD I wasn’t able to max it out. Did fine for all of my audio/video/web work…. Very strange to go in 2024 to a Mac mini with 64gb ram and 2tb SSD and know I’ll be set for many years!!! This computer is twice as fast as the Mac Pro Intel tower (which was fine for me) So for the first time in making music the computer is MORE than what I need for production. This is a first. I remember reading about this day when multicore chips and computer speeds would be amazing - they are here! Albeit late in life… 59 years old. Now the only issue or reason to upgrade would be massive software advances that would require the latest chips… The software development has always lagged behind the chip development IMHO So where do we go from here? Where does production advance? Like I said - only software advances would require an update for me… Anyone else? Amazing times we live in:)
