Cue/Recording Light

Does anyone have a good solution for a Cue or Recording light? It should be 12V, and I would want to connect it with an XLR cable to my already existing Arduino box which switches the light on as soon as Reaper is in Recording mode. (This part works.)
I currently use an Adam Hall SLED 1 Ultra XLR 3, which I have slightly modified by adding an orange colour filter and fixing the on/off button so it always comes on.
However, the light is very directional, cannot be seen from all angles, and does get into the eyes of performers. I would like something which I can put on a mic stand, which shines in all directions but without dazzling anyone. Any ideas? Happy to do some DIY...
(Oh, and the Punchlight stuff is good but I don't see one which I can just connect to 12V via XLR. They all come with USB electronics I think.)
