On today's episode of "why does my guitar sound like this"
Wednesday November 6, 2024. 04:00 PM , from Gearslutz
Hey all, it's your favorite citrus who thought he was good at repairing guitars until he found out he wasn't
I have had a problem with my Jackson RR1 that has been around for a long time, so long that I've basically neglected it completely because I didn't want to deal with the hassle. Apologies in advance for what is probably a lack of useful info, but if you'll refer to the two attached audio files, basically my guitar has this awful gross sound when picked with all but the very lightest strokes. It affects the tone (on ANY amp or sim) to the point that it's almost impossible to play with any kind of finesse. I've adjusted string height to within reason both at the bridge and the nut (you can shim the nut to varying heights on a Floyd). I've used a Stewmac straight edge to check the curve of the neck, it has a very slight concave bow in the middle like it's supposed to. I don't have reason to suspect this is related to a single high fret but I've ordered a fret rocker just in case. The strings aren't hitting the pickups or anything like that and I don't hear any fret buzzing beyond what you'd expect when you set your guitar up for low-ish action. I'm open to the idea that it's an electronics issue but I can't possibly fathom what. FYI my pickups are coil-split. Anyone ever deal with something like this before? It's intensely discouraging to pick this guitar up right now. Can give any further info if needed Attached Files amped.mp3 (593.1 KB) clean.mp3 (607.4 KB)
