Investigating gear for TLM 102. I need help with options.

Friday November 1, 2024. 01:22 PM , from Gearslutz
Hi,

I am newbie in audio and I want to do some upgrades (eventually from zero) for mic. I pulled the trigger for tlm 102, because I like how it performs.

First of all, the main usage will be Youtube videos, rarely streams, and voiceover in the future. I have spare 600-800 EUR to spend on gear.

I researched that there are a lot of options for gear, and it makes me mad due to infinite solutions. I do prefer to EQ, Tune, compress, de-ess and process the signal externally, rather than in DAW or Plugins etc (just cuz it will not be comfortable for me), so i do search hardware solution,. Goal is to process the signal ( tune, eq etc..) real-time, so my final recording app will take already processed signal.

My room treat is good, but will be treated better soon.

Some of solutions I know.

Rodecaster PRO II: Digital mixer, has everything in one unit. A lot of positives review. Suffers from monitoring delay(?).

ART Voicechannel: Channel strip with De-esser comparing with Pro Channel III. Also very good option. Has a tube amp, and it is analog. Also it is already a good upgrade from dbx 286s. Has less options to eq rather then Rodecaster.

So chain for now is

1. TLM 102 -> ART Voicechannel -> audio interface -> pc

or

2. TLM 102 -> RCP II -> pc

I am in confusion. Some telling that analog gear will be better, some that digital.

Will it be wise to buy ART Voiceover when we have Rodecaster pro II, as both have the same +- price-tag?

Maybe it is worth to buy each unit separately (rack of amp+come, eq, audio interface)?

If ART is good, is there any better alternatives? (not including avalon 737 cuz of price).

Are old class hardware like mentioned above are better than nowadays digital solution in my case? (I do not take 1000$+ gear)

If i am going totally wrong way with choosing gear, please point me, I am not an expert.

Appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance!
