Reverbs in a mix: clouding of sounds and introducing resonances

Friday November 1, 2024. 01:43 PM , from Gearslutz
I listen to mixes and records and most often in 80s and 90s records but also other stuff has lots of reverb on the multitracks. And I personally hate lots of reverb cos it makes sound loose definition, instruments smear and I hear resonance built up here and there causing me to lower the volume.

I always had the same feeling on parties hearing music.

I fight with using reverb in a mix therefore more using subtle delays or lowpassed verb. Any higher-pass filter makes a verb tail often rings or resonant....

I found a Bricasti verb very natural in sound but build up of used reverb on multiple tracks even with this can cloud a mix.
