Beesneez BU67 and Wind Over the Earth – Unbeatable Sound and Customer Service!
Tuesday November 5, 2024. 01:09 AM , from Gearslutz
I wanted to share my fantastic experience with Beesneez and Wind Over the Earth, and give a shoutout to Ben at Beesneez and Mark at Wind Over the Earth!
Initially, I was interested in a Beesneez m49 clone. However, when I described the sound I wanted for my particular voice, Ben at Beesneez recommended his u67 clone, even though the m49 is more expensive! It’s amazing to find a company where love of sound comes first over profit or upselling. I encourage everyone to check out the shootout Ben and his daughter did between his clone and a vintage u67. While they haven't revealed which is which, most people (including myself and actual vintage u67 owners) thought the Beesneez was the vintage one! It was slightly smoother, especially in the high mids. You can hear the shootout by following this Gearspace link: BeesNeez BU67 Tube Microphone. I ordered the version 2 from Wind Over the Earth, and it's amazing! I highly, highly recommend buying from Wind Over the Earth rather than any big retailer (more on that later!). The mic maintains the classic u67 style without modifications but offers switches inside the mic for different sounds. It can turn the mic from vintage u67 to new u67 reissue, to vintage u269, to new 269. The new versions have a broader frequency range, while the old style has a bit of that tape saturation vibe, likely due to the mic’s transformer. The switches also include high pass filter options and an s2 pop filter option that alters the mids. This versatility makes it ideal for recording acoustic guitar, piano, etc. It’s essentially four mics in one (with mod sounds too!). On my voice, I prefer the old u67 style without any mods — super vibey and still clear with tube beauty. I highly recommend this mic — originally intended as a secondary, it has become my main vocal mic, delivering rich tube vibes and outperforming much more expensive clones and vintage mics. (I still love my RCA 44BX and have had success blending the two mics.) Now, let me tell you about Mark at Wind Over the Earth. He’s awesome! A working musician and studio owner, he’s passionate about gear and genuinely great to talk to. He recommended vintage compressors and even let me demo a BC12A, which sounded great but wasn’t quite as ideal for my voice as the Beesneez u67. The customer service I received from Mark was exceptional, and he went above and beyond to ensure I was completely happy. You just don’t get that kind of service from the big box stores. If you’re serious about your gear and want to work with someone who actually listens to you and is super cool, I highly recommend you get your gear from Wind Over the Earth. I LOVE the sound of this mic! Overall, I couldn't be happier and highly recommend both Ben’s mics at Beesneez and the customer service from Mark at Wind Over the Earth! https://windovertheearth.com
