Looking for mic suggestions for voice and elec guitar amp
Monday November 4, 2024. 06:27 PM , from Gearslutz
Hey fellow gearheads!
Former acoustical engineer with a little bit of music production experience under my belt. Relatively versed in protools, wavelab, reason... now it's all just a hobby since I've reoriented my career towards other unrelated fields. I have a Focusrite ISA Two preamp (so nothing fancy), a pair of matched Oktava Mk012's and Miktek MK300 and now am looking for suggestions for a new mic to record voice and electric guitars. Genres are usually stuff like rockabilly, blues and nashville style country in a home studio... not metal or anything super loud. And primarily for fun; I don't produce music professionally. I was tempted to buy a U87 or U47 clone, even perhaps a real TLM103 but with my Focusrite ISA Two, I am not sure I could get the best performance out of those mics... I would like something that is pleasant to record with, which is what made me consider a used TLM103, which I can find for around $700. Another one I considered was the Dachman U87 clone or their U47 as well... but it's been a long time since I've bought recording equipment. I don't want to spend a ton of money, and don't plan to upgrade my preamp, so considering I plan to keep the ISA Two, what mic would you recommend for my application?
