Is JoeMeek Gear Still Useful in Modern Home Studio Setups?

I recently upgraded to an RME Babyface Pro, which is a great interface albeit pretty old. I'm really happy with it. However, the only outboard gear I have is a DBX 266xs compressor that I'm not currently using.
I'm looking to add a mic preamp to my home studio setup, and I'm wondering if a JoeMeek mic preamp or channel strip would be a good choice despite also being old, or if I should look at something else, like the Golden Age 1073 mkIII. My budget is about $500 max, and even then I'm iffy on if a preamp would work in my case sine all I've used before were the DSP plugins from my previous interface, the Antelope Audio Zen Q.
What are your thoughts? I'm genuinely open to suggestions (new and used), as I mostly use my setup to just record myself and sometimes another hip-hop/afrobeat artist once in a blue moon, but eventually aim to expand further down the like now that I have ADAT I/O
