AEA announces new TDI Duo

Hot on the heels of our newly-released, single-channel DI box comes the TDI DUO: an expanded, two-channel version of the ultra-clean, ultra-transparent AEA TDI. The TDI DUO includes a pair of our classic Lehle step-down transformers, separate ins and outs for each channel, and the same distortion-minimizing circuitry in a tidy, stage-and studio-friendly, two-unit package.

With a proprietary circuit design by Fred Forssell, the TDI DUO captures outstanding sonic performances with minimal noise interference/signal loss from long cable runs.
Additional features include:
• Two independent channels. Separate input/thru-put, -20 dB pad and ground lift for reach.
• Ultra-high (10MΩ) impedance. Ideal for passive instruments/acoustic instruments with piezo pickups
• Rack-mountable. Screw-holes in bottom of chassis allow for up to three units to fit in a 1U rackspace
• Made in the USA. Every unit manufactured, assembled, and tested in Pasadena, CA

The stereo (and active) advantage

A high-quality, active DI can make all the difference in sonic character and overall reliability. For one, active DIs such as the TDI and TDI DUO deliver consistently stronger signals and high input impedances (necessary to combat signal loss). Especially for low-output impedance instruments like synthesizers or small signal sources like piezo pickups, a good active DI can preserve top-end clarity while balancing the signal, with the final result sounding more akin to what we might hear directly from a stage amp.
The TDI DUO’s two-channel design also affords users greater flexibility in their signal chain. Because the TDI DUO treats left and right channels separately, users have the flexibility to run one mono instrument through each side or use it with an inherently stereo instrument (i.e. a synthesizer, stereo pedals).
Aside from this obvious two-input advantage, users can get creative with dual input/thru-put combinations and wet/dry tracking. For example, TDI DUO’s two channels can act as an interface between a pedal board (the thru-put on Ch. 1) and an amp (the thru-put of Ch. 2); in this way, a stereo DI is ideal for translating effects.
