apulSoft Releases SplitS - Spectral Sibilance Control Plugin

apulSoft has announced the release of splitS, a new audio plugin designed to handle sibilance (the sharp "s" sounds) on vocal tracks. It was developed in close collaboration with Swiss mixing engineer Thomas "Mister T." Gloor, who based it on his own manual technique.

Instead of applying dynamic gain like a de-esser, splitS detects sibilance using spectral analysis and uses this information to split the signal into two parts over time that sample-accurately sum to the original signal. You can adjust the balance of the two parts using a simple mixer without changing the inner dynamics.

splitS can also isolate just the sibilant or non-sibilant parts, allowing you to process them separately with other tools you may already use.

The plugin can be downloaded from the apulSoft homepage and has a 10-day trial mode.
