Spitfire Audio and DAACI announce Natural Drums Plugin
Create detailed rhythmic variety throughout your beats with structural variation.

5th September 2024 - London, United Kingdom - Spitfire Audio, a world leader in virtual instruments and sample libraries, and DAACI, pioneers in AI compositional solutions, today announced a strategic partnership to provide music makers of all abilities with remarkable new and ethical ways to bring their work to life.

The partnership sees Spitfire Audio’s expertly-crafted samples made available within the DAACI Natural Drums plugin, an assistive AI co-pilot plugin that creates drum grooves in real time, as if a session drummer is right there in the studio bringing ideas to life.

Natural Drums is part of the DAACI Natural Series, a comprehensive product portfolio of plugins, music tools and editing technology that has evolved from DAACI’s development of patented AI and musician-led core technologies. The plugin is created by expert drummers and draws on their many years of experience playing music in live settings. In line with DAACI’s approach to assistive AI and unlike other drum sequencers, Natural Drums doesn’t pull from a list of static precomposed patterns or utilise pure randomness. It thinks like a musician and rapidly creates beats that are entirely bespoke and unique to you. Spitfire Audio samples are included in the plugin, providing creators with access to iconic samples that instantly bring their work to life.

At the core of the partnership are shared values and a commitment to supporting artists, composers and creatives. Founded by composers, both Spitfire Audio and DAACI have built their reputations on artist-centric approaches to product development. Spitfire creates forward-thinking sample libraries and virtual instruments, while DAACI develops world-leading assistive AI tools for music creators.

Two thirds (63%) of young creatives say they embrace AI to assist in the creative process of music making according to Youth Music, and a survey published by Ditto in 2023 shares that 60% of independent musicians are using AI within their music projects. With this industry awareness in mind, Spitfire Audio is engaging with ethical AI for the first time, choosing DAACI as an ideal partner, as DAACI’s patented technology is the only one of its kind offering an artist-centred, human-first and ethical approach to assistive solutions.

Rachel Lyske, CEO of DAACI, comments, "In this era of AI and music creation the vital factors are control, compensation and consent. Both Spitfire Audio and DAACI have been built with these values at our core, and we focus on quality, creating the best solutions in the world. We respect every stage of the creative process, from the wonderful musicians responsible for the samples we hear, to the experience and knowledge of the composers, producers and music creators that use them. Spitfire Audio and DAACI put quality and control in the hands of every professional, every student, every creative and every musician. We believe in creating a world-leading collaborative ecosystem where AI is not a replacement for humans, rather it’s a powerful tool if utilised in the right way. This is the beginning of an exciting journey together, based on collaboration and creativity, and I can’t wait to hear the music people will make.”

Olivier Robert Murphy, CEO of Spitfire Audio, adds, "The partnership with DAACI signifies a pivotal moment for us as we expand our commitment to support composers, musicians and creatives in pushing the boundaries of music creation through innovative, collaborative and ethically developed AI tools and solutions. Spitfire Audio has always set the industry standard by paying royalties on every sample library sale to the exceptional musicians we collaborate with, so choosing an AI partner that shares our values was essential to us.”

Paul Thomson, Founder and CPO of Spitfire Audio, adds, “I’m excited that our first steps into the world of assistive AI are in partnership with DAACI, an ethical organisation backed by musicians, Abbey Road Red and the BPI, alongside their collaboration with the Queen Mary University in London on PhD research.”

Thomson noted, “The project seeks to create useful assistive tools for musicians and composers, while keeping human input at the centre of the creative process, maintaining respect for Artists Rights at the forefront of every endeavour. Forging a collaborative ethical path forward in AI in a way that enables human creativity rather than replaces it is extremely important to us, and our partnership with DAACI is an ideal first step on that journey.”
