Introducing Source-Nexus Mute-On

Wednesday July 31, 2024. 10:31 AM , from Source Elements
Source-Nexus Mute-On automates advanced talkback capabilities by adjusting track behavior for recording and playback, or through custom triggers. For example, it can mute the listener’s sound for the performer during recording, or allow the performer to hear themselves during playback while isolating the recording path to prevent echo. It also allows you to set a MIDI or keyboard command to mute or dim your audio.

The Source-Nexus Mute-On plugin also features system-wide recognition, so you don’t need to have the plugin window open or your DAW as the front-most application on your screen when using the key commands. Windows and macOs compatible, Apple Silicon supported.

Automate your signal flow

Source-Nexus Mute-On builds on the features in Source-Talkback to offer mute and dim options when your playback is idle, when music is playing, or when you are recording. On top of that, you can also take the normal plugin input audio as well as the sidechain/key input audio, and mix them both together into the plugin’s output. This opens up many new possibilities for talkback and monitoring that would require multiple tracks previously.

In addition, Source-Nexus Mute-On is natively compatible with Apple Silicon – this allows you to fully leverage the enhanced performance, efficiency, and features on Apple’s ARM-based processors without having to rely on other layers such as Rosetta.

Watch our webinar where we dive deep into different workflows and scenarios with Source-Nexus Mute-On and Source-Nexus Suite:

Ways to use Source-Nexus Mute-On

The Source-Nexus Mute-On plugin is meant to be highly adaptable to your workflows. It can be customized in many different ways to work exactly how you want it to. Here are just a few ways you can utilize the Source-Nexus Mute-On plugin in your workflow.

Talkback Switch

Use the Source-Nexus Mute-On plugin as a talkback switch controlled by a customized keyboard shortcut or MIDI control to open and close your talkback mic without the use of a traditional talkback switch.

You can also dim your master output using another instance on your master fader at the same time. You can even set it to automatically mute your talkback during playback and record, or use it to automatically mute clients or talent during playback or record. Each instance of Source-Nexus Mute-On can use unique keyboard and MIDI assignments, so every talkback mic in your studio can have a unique control for it. It can also be used as a listenback switch for talent recording in a live room. And it is compatible with the Source-Talkback iOS app, available on the Apple App Store, for remote MIDI control.

Low Latency Monitor Fix

Using low latency mode in Pro Tools with a third party interface creates some challenges when using hardware monitoring. Using Source-Nexus Mute-On, you can make low latency mode in Pro Tools work how you want it to by using the plugin to mute the track when idle and in record, so you do not hear a doubling of your mic that you are monitoring through your audio hardware, and unmuting on playback so you can still hear the playback audio from the track.

One Track Remote Playback

When recording audio from a Source-Connect connection, you can use Source-Nexus Mute-On on the record track, and another instance on your master fader or a separate aux, to be able to record and playback takes to a remote talent without needing to move the recorded audio to separate playback track to avoid feeding the talent back to themselves.

And Many More

Use Source-Nexus Mute-On as an A/B switch to A/B mixes or even mics. Use it to mute your click track or beeps on playback, so you only hear them when recording. Use a single instance of the plugin for two talkback mics by utilizing the sidechain input, to help simplify your session. Automatically switch the mix your talent hears during playback and record. The possibilities are endless.
