How to Slow Down Audio, Music & Video Clip in Premiere Pro

How to Slow Down a Clip in Premiere (Step by Step)
Here, I’ll show you how to slow down audio in Premiere. And we’ll look at how to slow down a video in Premiere Pro, too. Like I mentioned, the steps are the very same.
1. Identify Clips to Edit
With Premiere Pro open, find the Timeline. This is where you can add, arrange, and edit clips for both audio and video. If you don’t see it, you can launch the Timeline by going to Window > Timeline. In the example below, you can see an audio track and a video clip in place.

2. Open the Speed/Duration Menu
In the Timeline panel, make a Premiere Pro slow down clip selection. We’ll start with the audio track. It’s the green track shown here.

Right-click on the clip that you want to adjust. You’ll see a menu list open with a lengthy array of options. Just over halfway down, find the Speed/Duration option. Go ahead and click on it. This is the key to how to slow down a video in Premiere Pro.
3. Slow Down Clips for Audio
Once you click Speed/Duration, you’ll see the Clip Speed/Duration menu appear in the center of your Premiere Pro screen. This is where you’ll see how to slow down audio in Premiere Pro.
Notice that by default, the speed setting is at 100%. This means that the audio (or video) plays at normal speed. In other words, it’s the actual duration of the clip. But here, you can slow it down. Notice below that the duration is listed. With this audio, the duration is slightly over 50 seconds.

To slow down audio in Premiere, you’ll want to change the Speed to a value below 100%. For example, you can type in 75%. The playback will slow down, to 1:07 with those settings. It’s definitely a good idea to play your clips back before exporting when you slow them down. If you go too far, it’s easy to distort the content.
This tutorial details slowing down clips, but you can speed them up using this menu, too. Just choose a value over 100%.
4. Slow Down Clips for Video

To slow down a video, right-click on a video clip in your timeline. Choose Speed/Duration, and then repeat the steps above. Choose a speed that’s less than 100%. This is a powerful and cool way to add dramatic effects to videos.
