While Marty Friedman’s Western, mainstream success is primarily defined by his 10-year tenure on lead-guitar duty in Megadeth — as well as his luscious, curly locks — Marty’s work spans countless avenues of band-based and solo compositions, from his time alongside Jason Becker in Cacophony to work with Hawaii, Shout, Tourniquet, and more. Following his emigration to Japan, Marty’s oeuvre would expand to seamlessly transpose ideas across international lines of culture and history, navigating countless non-Western musical forms and realizing them through his exceptional showmanship and songwriting that he’s carefully honed throughout the decades — just don’t call him a shredder!
