Best Mic For My Vocals

Tuesday July 19, 2022. 12:23 PM , from Gearslutz
Hello All! I am new here and this is my first post! I am looking forward to learning from you all! Hopefully, I'll be able to teach others someday.

Anyway, I have a question concerning mic's for my vocals. I would like to preface my question with a little history. I purchased a Scarlett 2I2 about a year ago and have been recording music with that. Overtime, I began learning/recognizing bad frequencies and discovered how terribly boxy my vocals were. I can't seem to EQ enough to get rid of the boxiness. I eventually stopped using the Scarlett mic and tried a Shure 57 I have. It works much better but I still have issues with the boxiness. I am assuming neither mics match my voice well. I have eq'd, and tried other tricks to no avail, which is why I am assuming it is coming from the source.

I understand there are other elements that probably contribute to the problem. My room is well padded and I sing fairly soft, so I don't think the room is the main cause - if any.

Can anyone recommend a mic that might be more suitable for my thick-bassy voice? I prefer one that is budget friendly but I will pay a little more if I need to. Thanks!
