Today, has it sense to work with hardware?

Sometimes I have discussions with some engineers about today pluggins can do everything in the same way than hardware. I love the hardware. But Hardware is expensive, need some maintenance, it takes some space and maybe is better to invert the money in a better room, better speakers, mics, or go on hollyday...

What do you think about it?
