Soundwhale announces new key sync features

Saturday July 24, 2021. 03:19 PM , from Gearslutz
Soundwhale boosts key sync features, connecting global creators:

Users can frame accurate sync between DAWs and Soundwhale

- Soundwhale has implemented sync on the sender’s side. This update synchronizes your DAW with the playback, as well as with the audio time to maintain accuracy with softwares like Pro Tools.

Users can frame accurate sync between received stream and Soundwhale

- This improvement synchronizes the stream received in real time from the sender to your timeline, which includes any audio/video files or other connected software.

- The amount of users in Brazil and India increased by 10, meaning that many users had near dial up connections. In light of this Soundwhale implemented synchronization for huge network dropouts and spotty transmission. Now when network dropouts happen the audio and video elements in Soundwhale shift to match the sync of the received streams.

Producers can monitor talent in sync (macOS and iOS)

- If the producer or engineer wants to monitor the talent in sync, they can initiate playback on their end while a ‘receive sync’ feature is enabled. This will simultaneously initiate playback on the talent side, making sure all audio received from the talent is in sync with the producer.

Improved notifications between collaborators regarding compatibility

- Sample rates, buffer sizes, and compression settings are automatically matched when working with other users.

Sync offsets for iOS

- When utilizing the Soundwhale application many users have multiple files in their pro tools timelines and need a way to remain in sync with iOS, no matter what their position. When opening audio and video files in iOS for syncing with the macOS application, users will now be able to to declare the ‘start position’ for the iOS file.

User Interface improvements: new preferences panel

- More preference tabs and organization.

- Network speed bug fix.

- Cue button bug fix.

Automatically rename i/o based on selected interface

- Soundwhale will recognize the audio interface that’s connected and rename it’s channels according to the interface.

Automatically share recorded takes to your contact

- A recording workflow that allows users to automatically share the last recorded take with contacts.

Automatically add take to timeline after recording

- Another adjustment was made to workflow so users can instantly hear what was recorded by automatically adding the last recorded take to the timeline.

Improved latency after no activity

- After a long period of inactivity, the playback button will automatically clear any accumulated audio cues and reset your latency. There is also a button for this in the status bar for users that don’t need to ‘play’ but need to reset latency for live audio.

CPU performance improvements

- Fixed some memory leaks and optimized our audio data between applications and when streaming to other users.

Improved synchronization with iOS

- Sync with iOS is now matched with macOS in terms of dropouts and syncing frame by frame with the received streams from Mac.

Enhanced studio talkback

- A redesigned talkback feature allows users to talk in a separated channel outside of the record path and also allows the option to choose multiple inputs and outputs for more complex studio setups that require additional routing.

Dedicated panel for mic/instruments/inputs - (accurate ADR)

- A new audio panel dedicated to hardware, such as microphones, instruments, and other inputs has been added. This allows Soundwhale to maintain its synchronization when using ‘live signals’ that have constant audio connected.

Import files to timecode

- This is a feature made primarily for directors and producers that want to directly import files to a certain timecode at a specified rate. Now when reviewing mixes, they just have to import the video file and turn on sync.

Delay compensation when routing back to DAW

- Pro Tools users wanted a way to route received audio back into Pro Tools so they could record it or further manipulate it in a live working environment. Soundwhale has enabled the ability to route received stream back to your DAW and added a delay compensation feature which allows users to control the latency created by their CPU. This was necessary because each user’s machines will use a different amount of CPU based on their software/hardware environment.
