Monday March 11, 2019. 08:55 PM , from Keyboard Magazine
His video 'Jumping Dance' went viral on the Keyboard social networking sites this year. Our readers asked, 'Who is that man playing racks of Casio keyboards by the seaside alongside running horses and keytar solos?' We tracked him down and proudly present Mario Mathy, our TALENT SCOUT Artist of the Week!NAME: Mario MathyHOMETOWN: Houthalen, BelgiumMUSICAL TRAINING: I studied piano and organ.FIRST GIGS: My first single was released in 1983. That was a long time ago!MUSICAL INFLUENCES: Vangelis, Ennio Morricone, Tangerine Dream.WHAT I’M LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW: Jazz and dance music.MY BIG BREAK: My song 'Jumping Dance' was in the Belgian music charts back in 1987.LATEST PROJECTS: I haven't released music for the past 30 years because it was not easy in Belgium to promote instrumental music and I never found the right people to promote it. Since then I have operated flower shops and a tavern.TELL US ABOUT YOUR CRAZY VIDEO WITH KEYBOARDS AND HORSES: The video clip for 'Jumping Dance' was actually a joke between my wife and my record company. Of course I also realize that my videos were exaggerated, but that was the only way to stand out in Belgium. My wife who is 23 years younger than me put that clip on YouTube together with my record company. And of course, it became quite popular after 32 years! It featured only Casio instruments like the CZ-3000 and 5000 and the CZ-1, because I was Casio demonstrator.WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU? Now I'm taking it easy!ADVICE TO THE NEXT GENERATION: Be yourself!
