Sontronics releases new DrumPack and DrumPack Plus condenser mic sets

Friday March 1, 2019. 02:57 PM , from Gearslutz
British microphone brand Sontronics has today confirmed the launch of its new DrumPack and DrumPack Plus microphone sets, both of which deliver incredible results on drumkit in the studio and on stage.

Pulling together Sontronics’ award-winning DM-series condenser mics designed specifically for kick, snare and tom toms, the five-piece DrumPack and seven-piece DrumPack Plus represent a saving of over 30% on buying the mics individually.

Sontronics DrumPack comprises a DM-1B for kick drum, a DM-1S for snare and three DM-1T mics for tom tom packaged together with four mic clips in a rugged ABS flightcase. It will retail for £599 inc. VAT / $849 plus tax.

The Sontronics DrumPack Plus includes the DM-1B, DM-1S and three DM-1T plus two Sontronics STC-10 pencil condenser mics for use as overheads or for miking solo percussion. The DrumPack Plus will retail for £739 inc. VAT / $1049 plus tax.

The DM-series microphones were developed over a three-period by Sontronics’ founder Trevor Coley alongside top drummers and producers. Each mic was specifically designed to accurately capture the characteristics of each element of a drumkit from the snap of the snare to the resonance of the tom toms and the booming thump of the kick, and effortlessly give unmatchable results in the studio or in a live environment.

Since their launch, the DM-1B, DM-1S and DM-1T have received rave reviews, won awards and found themselves on the studio and touring kits of top drummers including Dave Grohl, Aerosmith’s Joey Kramer, Muse’s Dom Howard and many others.

The Sontronics DrumPack and DrumPack Plus are an absolute must-have for any drummer, producer or studio wanting premium-quality results from incredible-sounding condenser microphones.

“We have always been so proud of our drum microphones and the impact they’ve had over the years, and it’s fantastic to know that, thanks to our new DrumPack and DrumPack Plus, they’ll get into the hands and on to the drums of even more artists and producers.” Trevor Coley, Founder & Designer, Sontronics

INFO ABOUT INDIVIDUAL MICS
Sontronics DM-1B: This large-diaphragm end-fire cardioid condenser mic is superb at capturing the entire dynamic range of your kick drum, thanks to its high sensitivity, extremely low self-noise, -15dB attenuation pad and SPL handling of 155dB. It delivers outstanding results on kick drum but also sounds fantastic on bass guitar cabs, low brass, tenor sax and even male vocals.

Sontronics DM-1S and DM-1T: These small-diaphragm cardioid condenser mics have been designed with slight variations to perfectly capture the exact sound of your snare (DM-1S) and tom toms (DM-1T). Each mic has a -10dB attenuation pad and SPL handling of up to 135dB, and will capture every element of your sound from the crack of the first hit to the rattle and snap of the snare and all of the depth of the tom toms.

Sontronics STC-10: These small-diaphragm condenser mics (two of which are included in the DrumPack Plus) boast a -10dB pad switch, a 75Hz filter and an extremely precise response plus Sontronics’ signature smooth high-frequency roll-off. As a pair they are amazing as drumkit overheads, but they also sound stunning whether used individually for solo percussion, woodwind or stringed instruments or together for stereo-miking acoustic guitar or piano.

QUOTES
“We were A/B testing the Sontronics DM mics against some thousand-pound mics and had to keep checking the tracks because the Sontronics mics sounded better than the expensive ones. We were totally blown away!” Grammy-winning producer Mark Rankin (Florence & The Machine, Adele, Plan B)

“Sontronics DM-1B, DM-1S and DM-1T truly capture my drums without needing any enhancement or EQ whatsoever. The results are amazing!” Pete Parada, Drummer (My Chemical Romance, The Offspring)

“The DM-1B sounds better than my vintage Neumann U47fet and the DM-1S is one of the best close mics I have ever used. They are superb!” Andy Gray, Producer/Composer (Gary Numan, Radiohead, Enter Shikari, TT3D, CSI Miami)
