McGehee’s Story and Cookie Were Chosen from More Than 1,000
Submissions by Barnes & Noble and a Panel of Renowned Chefs and Bakers

McGehee Awarded $5,000 Check at a Special Awards Ceremony, and Her
Cookie Will Be Sold at Barnes & Noble Cafés During the 2019 Holiday
Season

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the world’s largest
retail bookseller, today announced that military family wife and mother
Jessica McGehee won the national My Cookie Story Contest held
last December for her “Taste of Home Cookie Bar,” a cookie representing
all the places her family has lived over the years. As the winner,
McGehee will have a version of her cookie sold as part of the 2019
Barnes & Noble Café Holiday Menu, and was presented with a check for
$5,000 on Saturday, February 9, at the Barnes & Noble Eastlake in Chula
Vista, California.

“We received many great stories and recipes from around the country
telling us about the special memories and moments that come from
baking,” said Neil Strong, Vice President of Café Operations for Barnes
& Noble. “But Jessica’s McGehee’s submission of a cookie with
ingredients representing the different places her family has lived due
to her husband’s job in the military both moved us for its story, as
well as impressed us for its baking creativity.”

During a special event on Saturday, February 9, Strong awarded McGehee
her prize, and samples of her award-winning cookie were made available
by Sweet Street. Sweet Street will also bake a version of McGehee’s
cookie to be sold at Barnes & Noble Cafés next holiday season. McGehee’s
award-winning recipe includes a delicious combination of marshmallows,
chocolate chips, and white chocolate, as well as garnish including
caramel sauce and crisp bacon, all evoking memories of places her family
has lived. McGehee’s story and recipe can be seen at BN.com/MyCookieStory.

“This ‘Taste of Home Cookie Bar’ represents the four states my
7-year-old daughter has lived in as part of a military family, from the
marshmallows representing our first snow in North Carolina, to the
course bits of sugar on top representing the sandy deserts of Arizona,”
McGehee said. “I’m so happy that Barnes & Noble and the judges
recognized our story and this recipe for its cookie contest. I can’t
wait for customers around the country to try the cookie over the
holidays and hopefully be reminded of the service and sacrifice of
military families around the country.”

Barnes & Noble’s My Cookie Story Contest gave customers a
chance to share their favorite cookie stories and recipes with Barnes &
Noble and a panel of nationally-renowned chefs and bakers. Submissions
were accepted online and in stores from December 4 through December 17,
2018. Barnes & Noble’s panel of nationally-renowned chefs and bakers
