Friday December 14, 2018. 01:24 PM , from Music Think Tank
With illnesses and disorders abounding in our generation, many people seem to have a run for the gym to work out stresses and tensions. These workout gigs are mostly aimed at enjoying the glow of health. What is more, you can always wear a pair of new orange leggings and sports bra. Because, you know, girls are as much a buff for exercise as boys are. I would think of fitness as not just about hitting the gym; it is also about inner happiness as well as overall well-being.
Working out may not be the most enjoyable thing to do for some, but for others, it is the most awaited time at the end of the day. Keeping fit is one great motivator with all the vulnerabilities around us. Enough said, we just have to work out.  So how do we keep up?

Music! Plato says that music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything. Friedrich Nietzsche adds, “Without music, life would be a mistake.” Indeed, cheerful tunes make our day colorful and light. It drives away burden. Plus, and you may not realize it, there are some unexpected ways that music can improve your workout. Let’s take a look!

Music distracts your mind from pain and discomfort. The first time you flex that arm or leg muscle, you feel how painfully it stretches. With your favorite beats in your ear, you wouldn’t notice it. Although, you should be careful not to get carried away and get hurt during the training.

Sets the pace for a vigorous workout. The tempo of the music you choose to synchronize with your workout or exercise will keep you moving with the beat. You would never slack or slow down, thus benefits of a vigorous workout are maximized.

Improves motor coordination. A Swiss study revealed that trainings to music improve balance, gait, and coordination among seniors and those who are recovering from injuries. The beat improves the connection in brain tissues which affect motor skills.

Speeds up reaction time. According to a study, fast beat promotes quicker reaction time. That is because music evokes emotions some of which make more concentrated.

Increases strength. Researchers discovered that listening to the right music significantly increases strength. A “grip” test was conducted with 2 groups: one of them had to listen to stimulating, energetic music and the other one to slower, relaxing tunes. The first group demonstrated significantly higher strength scores.

Indeed, there are unexpected ways music improves your workout. It is amazing what it does to the body. The impact on the brain and its effects on our mood are indeed intense. Take note, however, that it is not just any music that you should listen to during your workout. Choose something that presents a strong, invigorating beat, like hip-hop, R’n’B or rock. Go for upbeat and positive lyrics or those whose rhythm moves well with the activity that you are engaged in.
