The iPhone 19 might suffer the same fate as the iPhone 9

Back when Apple released the iPhone X in 2017, it skipped over the iPhone 9, as customers flocked to the new “all-screen” design. Now, ten years later, it looks like the iPhone 19 might get the same treatment.

Following the iPhone 18 lineup next year, Apple is expected to launch a new 20th anniversary model in 2027 with curved edges and no notch. According to a new report from Omdia, that phone will be called iPhone 20, skipping over the iPhone 19.

However, the timing is unclear. Apple is widely expected to shift the standard iPhone from fall to a spring release this year, meaning the iPhone 20 would arrive in March 2027 ahead of the iPhone 20 Pro and Pro Max. Omdia says the phone will arrive alongside the iPhone 18e, which is equally odd.

Based on the site’s report, here’s when new models will be released:

September 2026: iPhone 18 Pro/Pro Max, iPhone 18 Air, iPhone Fold

March 2027: iPhone 20, iPhone 18e

September 2027: iPhone 20 Pro/Pro Max, iPhone 20 Air, iPhone Fold 2

It seems more likely that the iPhone 18 will arrive in March 2027 alongside the 18e, and the 20th anniversary redesign will debut in September 2027. But either way, there probably won’t be an iPhone 19. Now we just need to know if it’ll be iPhone 20 or iPhone XX.
