Artificial intelligence is key to Apple’s push into robotics

Artificial intelligence is key to Apple’s push into robotics
Apple is reportedly developing a new robot designed to assist with household tasks, marking a significant expansion into the AI-driven robotics market. This ambitious project, as detailed in a Yahoo Finance article on Tuesday, will heavily rely on advanced artificial intelligence to navigate complex environments and perform diverse functions. The initiative underscores Apple’s ongoing commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology into everyday life, though it faces challenges in perfecting the robot’s capabilities.
Daniel Howley for Yahoo Finance:

[W]hile Apple has made some headway in robotics via prototypes and research, its prospects in the space could all come down to ensuring it has the AI chops to build a home robot that can understand and respond to requests.
“It all falls back to how that voice-based interface works and how accurate it is, and that’s the part that Apple has been arguably falling behind on,” TECHnalysis founder and chief analyst Bob O’Donnell explained.
Apple has faced continuous criticism for delaying its AI-powered version of Siri from this year to sometime in 2026, leaving questions about the company’s AI capabilities…
“[An Apple robot] is very much linked to their success around generative AI,” BofA Global Research analyst Wamsi Mohan explained. “If you’re trying to do a hands-free experience, voice has to be the main modality in which you converse.”
Another way for Apple to get ahead in robotics is to acquire a company with expertise in the space.
“I absolutely cannot imagine that Apple can be successful in robotics without making an acquisition,” Patrick Moorhead, CEO and chief analyst at Moor Insights and Strategy, told Yahoo Finance. “I just don’t see it as being in their core competency. So I think acquisition would be the only way you could convince me that they would be good at this,” he added.

MacDailyNews Take: By now, everyone finally realizes that Siri is the key. Even Tim Cook.
Competent leadership with even a smidgen of vision wouldn’t have let Siri rot for a decade and a half, but instead would have invested heavily into Siri development which would have led Apple directly to leadership in LLMs and Generative AI.
Instead, the company is now scrambling and executing multiple management shakeups in a panicked rush to catch up.
This, after damaging its own brand by stupidly tagging vaporware “Apple Intelligence,” failing to deliver and meaningful part of it, and rightly getting sued for false advertising.
But, hey, hope springs eternal! Maybe Apple can get their act together and make some new products that a significant number of people will want in their lives.
