Apple is juggling a large number of betas this month as it prepares to launch iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, and the rest of its 2026 updates, but that doesn’t mean it’s stopped working on the smaller updates to existing products. Last week, for example, we got iOS 18.6, and this week there’s a new firmware update to the 25W MagSafe charger. Before you ask, we don’t know what it does. Apple doesn’t provide release notes for firmware updates like these, but it’s likely related to performance and stability. The new version 2A168 firmware replaces the 2A146 firmware that arrived earlier this year. In the Settings app, the new firmware is version 148, up from 136. It’s not clear whether the version numbers are significant in any way. Once again, the latest firmware is specifically for the 25W version of the MagSafe Charger, which arrived last year alongside the iPhone 16. Apple has issued several firmware updates since then, but none of them have included the older 15W cable. To check which cable you have, plug in the charger, attach it to your iPhone, and head over to the Settings app. Then tap General > About and tap Apple MagSafe Charger. If the firmware version is 128 or higher, you have the 25W model. There’s no way to directly install the update on your charger. Instead, you’ll need to plug it in, attach it to your iPhone, and wait. The update should arrive within 30 minutes.
