Betas, more betas, and everything else coming from Apple in July

July is always an interesting month for Apple releases.

There’s never any new hardware, and many of the services releases kind of slow down over the summer.

But it’s also a big month for the beta releases of Apple’s major upcoming operating system updates. Apple announces them at WWDC in June and releases developer-only betas, but the public betas start up in July. Those are easier to sign up for and install, and more polished and stable than the early developer releases.

Apps and software updates

The beta releases for iOS 26, macOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26–all the “2026” releases–start to really hit their stride in July. Public beta is an important milestone toward the wide release in September, and will go through multiple releases over a roughly two-month period.

After several weeks of developer-only releases with missing features and lots of bugs, the Public Beta is expected to begin sometime around the second week of July. This will allow anyone, even without a developer account, to sign up for and download the beta. If you do, expect some bugs, and be sure to report them using the Feedback app!

Apple’s OS releases all include a new Liquid Glass interface that adds a transparent layer to menus and a glass-like look to icons and other system elements. There are several new features as well, including updates to the Camera and Phone apps in iOS, Mac-like multitasking in iPadOS, massive upgrades to Spotlight in macOS, and a new AI workout buddy in watchOS.

We’ll also likely get a release of iOS 18.6 and macOS 15.6, but there aren’t much in the way of new features.
