With iPadOS 19, Apple looks to make iPad more like a Mac
Monday April 14, 2025. 02:56 PM , from Mac Daily News
![]() Apple is preparing a major iPadOS 19 update that will closely align the tablet’s software with macOS. The overhaul aims to enhance functionality and user experience, making iPads more versatile and Mac-like. Mark Gurman for Bloomberg News: I’m told that this year’s upgrade will focus on productivity, multitasking and app window management — with an eye on the device operating more like a Mac. It’s been a long time coming, with iPad power users pleading with Apple to make the tablet more powerful. Many of them, including myself, just wanted Apple to put macOS on the iPad. They won’t get their wish, but the changes will likely go far enough to make a lot of those users happy — at least for now. The revamp is arriving about a year after Apple brought the M4 chip to the iPad Pro, which, in my experience, seriously makes the device fly. The software also is coming around the time new iPad Pros with M5 chips are likely to be ready. For years, users have said that it feels like the hardware capabilities of the iPad are well ahead of its software. That could soon be changing. MacDailyNews Take: Bring it on! Imagine an “iOS Pro” mode. Turn on iOS Pro on your iPad Pro 1. Tap Settings > General, and make sure iOS Pro is turned on. 2. There is no step two.
