Apple’s iPhone returns to growth in China in June – analyst

The most significant gap in Apple’s AI rollout has been its China strategy, which remained on hold pending Beijing’s approval of a Chinese tech partner. That moment seems to have arrived, with Alibaba stepping up as the evident choice and victor for Apple Intelligence in the crucial China market. This partnership could serve as a springboard for renewed iPhone growth, potentially returning iPhone to a growth story in China starting in the June quarter, according to Wedbush Securities analyst Daniel Ives.

From a note to Wedbush clients that landed on my desktop Monday:
While there are still some small issues to be resolved we believe after traveling extensively throughout Asia and speaking to many in the supply chain the last few weeks there is growing confidence inside and outside China this AI launch will be in the June quarter for Apple. This Alibaba partnership is key to the long awaited growth catalyst in this region with our estimates that over 100 million of the roughly 200 million iPhones in China are in the window of an upgrade opportunity.
While Apple has lost some share to Huawei over the past year we believe the tide will start to turn over the coming year between the Apple Intelligence launch on iPhone 16 and then iPhone 17 launch in September…
China has been a major headwind for Apple over the last year but we believe starting in the June quarter growth returns to this flagship region with easier comps going forward into FY26.
