iPhone supplier TDK rolls out new batteries to support mobile AI
Monday January 6, 2025. 02:54 PM , from Mac Daily News
Yuki Furukawa and Takashi Mochizuki for Bloomberg News: Silicon batteries, which are more complex to manufacture but carry more energy than conventional ones, have already been embraced by most major Chinese phone makers and Saito sees further growth ahead. Hong Kong-based subsidiary Amperex Technology Ltd., the leading provider of mobile batteries globally, first introduced lithium-ion cells with silicon anodes in 2023 after years of research and fine-tuning. Those had 5% greater energy density than graphite-anode batteries, and the improvement has steadily risen to 15% better capacity in the upcoming 2025 edition. MacDailyNews Take: Improvements in battery technology aren’t earth-shattering, but are steadily making notable progress.
