Apple Silicon chief Johny Srouji likely on Intel’s new CEO short list

Following the recent departure of CEO Pat Gelsinger, Intel may once again turn to Apple’s Johny Srouji as a potential candidate for the top job. Srouji, renowned for his expertise in custom silicon and hardware technologies, was considered a strong contender for the CEO position when Intel sought to replace Brian Krzanich five years ago. As Intel navigates its future, Srouji’s experience and leadership could be invaluable in revitalizing the company’s position in the semiconductor industry.
Mark Gurman for Bloomberg News:

If you’re an Intel board member looking to find someone to take your company out of the doldrums, Srouji makes a lot of sense.
Srouji’s team helped popularize modern chip technology and contributed to putting Intel on the brink of irrelevance.
Last time around, Srouji didn’t seriously consider the job. Though I don’t necessarily expect a different outcome this time, taking the Intel role might actually make more sense these days. For one, Srouji is coming off a successful run at Apple. The company is on the verge of launching one of his most significant projects ever — a homegrown modem — and Srouji may not have a lot more to prove after that.
Second: Intel is in such bad shape that Srouji might be able to come in, level the company to the ground and essentially start fresh. It would be an ordeal, but also an adrenaline rush. Srouji has made a fortune at Apple and already accomplished enough to call it a successful career. The only question is whether he’ll be tempted by an even bigger challenge.

MacDailyNews Take: When money is no concern whatsoever, as it is for Srouji, why take the Intel CEO job when you could just repeatedly hit yourself in the face with a hammer?
Trying to turn around beleaguered Intel would take years and be a life-shorting stress-fest.
Srouji, 60, has already earned his success.
Success is nothing if not enjoyed.
