Glowtime event: Latest news and rumors

Stream is live: The Glowtime event stream is live on Apple.com with a playlist of music leading up to the start of the event at 10am PT.

No price increase: Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that the iPhone 16 Pro will still start at $999 despite rumors of a price increase.

Tim Cook tease: Apple CEO Tim Cook has shared an early-morning image of Apple Park’s rainbow structure with the caption, “Apple Park is glowing!”

Apple Store down: As expected, Apple has taken its online store down ahead of the Glowtime event.

EarPods discontinued: According to Aaron on X, Apple may retire its longstanding line of wired EarPods today.

AirPods Max 2: Gurman reports Apple will update its AirPods Max headphones today with “better noise cancellation, adaptive audio & USB-C.”

Sleep apnea tracking: Gurman reports that sleep apnea tracking will be a “major new health feature” of the new Apple Watches, but “may not be available on day one of the new model going on sale.”

No iPad mini: Gurman reports that Apple’s iPad mini update isn’t coming at this event but rather is “on deck for Apple’s October event alongside the M4 Macs.”

Better sensors: 9to5Mac reports that the Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 3 will sport upgraded EKG and heart-rate sensors “that will unlock new features and provide more accurate results.”

No Apple Watch Ultra: Gurman claims the Apple Watch Ultra 3 might not arrive at the Glowtime event, but rather the Ultra 2 may merely get a new color.

Delayed Apple Watch SE: Gurman also says he “wouldn’t rule out a delay to the new Watch SE,” which implies that it may get an announcement but not ship for several weeks.

Apple Store Scandinavia grand opening: Apple has announced that its newest store in the Mall of Scandinavia will have its grand opening on Friday, September 20, a strong indication that the iPhone 16 will launch on that day.

Glowtime event: What’s coming

iPhone 16 and 16 Plus: Apple’s base-level iPhones are expected to get a host of new features, including the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action button, a new Capture button, an A18 processor, Apple Intelligence, and a new vertical camera alignment. And of course, some new colors too that are noticeably brighter than last year’s.

iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max: The high-end phones get larger screens (6.32 inches and 6.9 inches), a faster chip (A18 Pro), and better cameras. And the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s enhanced zoom lens should be coming to the smaller model as well.

Apple Watch Series 10: The Glowtime event is being held on September 10, exactly 10 years after the Apple Watch made its debut at the iPhone 6 event, so it’s no secret that Apple is planning one of the biggest updates ever. Rumors say the first-ever redesign could be on the way, with larger screens, a thinner body, and flatter edges.

Apple Watch SE 3: After four years of basically the same watch, the 3rd-gen SE looks to be a major overhaul, with a plastic body and a lower price.

Apple Watch Ultra 3: Not much new is expected other than a new chip and maybe a second color option.

AirPods: All of Apple’s AirPods are long overdue for an update and several are candidates for this event. A new budget model could replace the ancient 2nd-gen model with a lower price; a 4th-gen update could bring noise-cancellation and a new design; and an AirPods Max refresh could also be on the way.

iPad mini: Not much new is expected from the next mini update other than a new chip and more RAM to make it Apple Intelligence-ready.
