Zip in talks with Apple for U.S. Buy-Now-Pay-Later integration
Tuesday August 27, 2024. 02:45 PM , from Mac Daily News
Zip, an Australian buy-now-pay-later company, is exploring a potential partnership with Apple to offer its installment payment service in the United States. Additionally, the company anticipates announcing collaborations with more major U.S. retailers in the coming months.
Stuart Condie for The Wall Street Journal: Earlier this month, Zip announced that merchants using Stripe in the U.S. would be able to offer Zip to customers. It is now looking for strategic partnerships with other payments providers, Chief Executive Cynthia Scott said. “We don’t have an integration with Apple at the moment in the U.S., but that’s something that we are in conversation with them about,” Scott said on Tuesday. Apple unveiled its own buy-now-pay-later service, called Apple Pay Later, in March 2023 but stopped offering new loans just over a year later. The company said at the time that it planned to offer installment options on its Apple Pay payment system via other providers. MacDailyNews Take: Pulling the plug on Apple Pay Later also killed a regulatory avenue.
