Every Mac is getting an M4, but not all at the same time
Friday August 16, 2024. 08:02 PM , from Mac Daily News
Apple’s M4 chip, initially introduced in the iPad Pro, is set to supercharge the Mac lineup. Unlike previous M-series chips, the M4 will power every Mac model, from entry-level to high-end.
Expected fall 2025 lineup: • MacBook Pro: All existing models will receive the M4 chip, with a more affordable 14-inch option featuring the standard M4. Higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch models will boast the more powerful M4 Pro and M4 Max chips. • Mac mini: Undergoing a significant redesign, the new Mac mini will be smaller than ever, resembling the Apple TV 4K. It will offer both M4 and M4 Pro options. • iMac: Also slated for an M4 upgrade, the iMac will likely maintain its current design. These updates, expected to be unveiled at an October special media event, promise to enhance performance, efficiency, and user experience across Apple’s Mac ecosystem. The MacBook Air is expected to wait until spring 2025, according to Bloomberg News‘ Mark Gurman. Apple’s more powerful desktop Macs, the Mac Studio and Mac Pro, are expected to receive M4 updates in mid-2025 (think just before or during Apple’s WWDC keynote address in June).
