Extended Apple Intelligence rollout means the payoff will slowly build

Wednesday July 31, 2024. 12:04 AM , from Mac Daily News
The highly anticipated Apple Intelligence features, set to be a cornerstone feature of the Mac, iPhone, and iPad, will not be available at the next-gen iPhones’ initial launch this September. According to Bloomberg News, Apple needs more time to perfect these AI capabilities. The delay means that iOS 18 will also ship without the full suite of AI features. While Apple is expected to provide more details during its earnings call later this week, the news dampens expectations for an immediate Apple Intelligence revolution and instead portends a payoff that will build slowly over time.
Bill Alpert for Barron’s:

This week the market will hear June quarter results from Microsoft, Meta Platforms and Amazon.com. Like Google-parent Alphabet, they have spent heavily on infrastructure for artificial intelligence. Google’s spending nearly doubled in the June period, and Wall Street wants to see about those other AI pioneers…
After March results showed heavy capital spending for AI data centers, Wall Street’s capex forecasts for Microsoft, Meta and Amazon have risen by a collective $18 billion, while revenue forecasts rose just $2 billion, notes BofA analyst Savita Subramanian in a Sunday note.
“AI hype days are over,” she says. “Time to show monetization.”
“As AI transitions from ‘tell me’ to ‘show me’, companies clearly monetizing AI are likely to lead from here,” Subramanian predicts.

MacDailyNews Take: Apple Intelligence will spark a multi-year upgrade cycle for iPhones, Macs, and even iPads.
As we wrote last Friday, “As soon as Apple Intelligence rolls out to Macs, iPads, and iPhones, Apple will immediately be the clear far and away leader in consumer artificial intelligence.”
