Driver’s licenses and state IDs in Apple Wallet
Apple in September 2021 announced that it was working with several states across America to roll out the ability for their residents to seamlessly and securely add their driver’s license or state ID to Wallet on their iPhone and Apple Watch. At the time, Apple stated, “Arizona and Georgia will be the first states to introduce this new innovation to their residents, with Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Utah to follow.” Today, driver’s license or state IDs in the Wallet app are available in only four U.S. states: Arizona, Georgia, Colorado, and Maryland. Joe Rossignol for MacRumors: In March 2022, Apple said the additional eight states listed below would “soon” allow residents to add their driver’s license or state ID to the Wallet app, but it is now two years later and none of these states support the feature yet. • Connecticut • Hawaii • Iowa • Kentucky • Mississippi • Ohio • Oklahoma • Utah Apple said the feature would also be supported in Puerto Rico. MacDailyNews Take: Tim Cook’s Apple is currently running like an un-oiled machine with two dead spark plugs, but the inefficiency of government should not be discounted.
