Steam dropping support for OS X 10.11, 10.12
Saturday April 29, 2023. 03:06 AM , from InsideMacGames
Latest Steam update has this warning:
Quote:On September 1 2023, Steam will officially stop supporting macOS versions 10.11 ('El Capitan') and 10.12 ('Sierra'). After that date, the Steam Client will no longer run on those versions of macOS. In order to continue running Steam and any games or other products purchased through Steam, users will need to update to a more recent version of macOS. Followed by the usual blah blah blah about how they are forced to do this because of embedded Chrome, hackers, and other forces of nature. I was thinking how Apple gets a lot of grief about transitions like 32-bit (Catalina 10.15). But Apple doesn't brick the old OS on your existing Mac, or prevent you from running programs on it. So Steam 'supported' Sierra longer than Apple did, but when they pull the plug, it's a lot more final. Seems to me they should get at least as bad a reputation as Apple has in that regard. (Good luck playing old 32-bit Mac Steam games in a couple years, once Steam drops Catalina support.)
