Play Apple Music With Amazon Echo Devices

Tuesday December 18, 2018. 03:00 PM , from MacMost
A new feature of Amazon Echo devices is that they now support Apple Music. Previously, you could use a number of music streaming services with Echo devices, but Apple Music was left out. With Echo dots being so inexpensive, this allows Apple Music users to hear their music in many places without needing a Bluetooth speaker or Apple HomePod. You can now ask Alexa to play your Apple Music songs, albums, and playlists. You can even make Apple Music your default service.

So a big new feature of using any Amazon Echo device is the ability now to play Apple Music through it. If you're an Apple Music subscriber you can now use all these Echo devices you may have to play Apple Music. But you have to set it up.

The first thing you want to do is you want to go to the Alexa app on your phone and run the Alexa app. This is where you configure things. So you probably already have the Alexa app setup and hooked up to your Echo devices. If you go into Settings by tapping the menu at the upper left and then Settings you can go in here and see Alexa Preferences, Music. Go to Music and then say Link New Service. You can see Apple Music is now an option there.

So I tap Apple Music and it's going to say Enable To Use. This is where I link my account. So it's going to want me to sign in with my Apple ID. So I have a signing and authenticate with Two Factor since I have that setup and I will Allow Alexa and Apple Music to talk. So now that it's been linked I can give it a try. So let's give it a go. Here's my Echo Dot and let's try playing Apple Music over it. Alexa play my Classical Favorites Playlist on Apple Music. (Music is playing).

So let's take a look here and you can see it asked if I wanted to set a Favorite music service. That would make things a little bit easier. Now the way you get to this normally is you go into Menu and Settings and Under Music, in here, it will show your music services. You can manage them. You can see Apple Music has now been added. So I can set Default services and change it from Amazon music to Apple Music and the default station also. So now I should get it where it plays Apple Music by default. Alexa, play my Classical Favorites Playlist. (Music plays. Alexa stop).

Great. So now I can just treat the Echo just like say the HomePod. I can really just ask it to play anything which is great now because I have a lot more rooms in the house where I can actually play my Apple Music thanks to these pretty inexpensive Echo Dot and other Echo devices that you can get.
